Temple, Shirley 1928 - . US actress. She became the most successful child star of the 1930s. Her films include Bright Eyes 1934 (Academy Award), in which she sang On the Good Ship Lollipop, Curly Top 1935, and Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm 1938. Her film career virtually ended by the time she reached adolescence. As Shirley Temple Black, she became active in the Republican Party and was US chief of protocol 1976-77. She was appointed US ambassador to Czechoslovakia 1989.
